The Ultimate Family Packing List for Orlando & Disney World for a Family of 6

There’s something magical about piling into the car, kids in the back with snacks in hand, the playlist queued up, and the promise of adventure. But let’s be honest, family road trips are equal parts excitement and chaos. Today I’m sharing my full packing list for Orlando Disney World with a list of everything you’ll need! Roadtripping with kids, traveling with kids really, is full of chaos (mostly the good kind). Whether you’re driving from a few towns over or making a full cross-country trek to Orlando, having a well-stocked car can make all the difference.

Today I’m sharing my full packing list for Orlando, which included a stop at Isle of Palms, SC on the way down. We had fun events as well as down time planned, and I’m so glad we did!

Clothing & Accessories

Firstly, when packing for Orlando, think cool, comfortable, and sun-safe. Florida weather is warm year-round, but unpredictable rain showers and heavy AC indoors mean layering is key. I can’t tell you how many times we got rained on, or rolled up sweaty somewhere and jumped into the air conditioning, then we were freezing. It’s a tough climate if I’m being honest.

Important Documents

Don’t forget the paperwork in your packing list for Orlando! When you’re focused on packing for the heat, theme park outfits, and snacks for the road, it’s easy to overlook the boring stuff, but the right documents are just as essential as sunscreen and sneakers. Whether you’re flying into Florida or road-tripping with your crew like we did, these items should be at the top of your packing list for Orlando. Having everything organized will save you time, stress, and even money once you arrive.

Make sure to double-check your hotel reservations, theme park tickets (or QR codes), and any dining or Lightning Lane bookings before you go. If you’re flying with young kids, especially as a solo parent, it’s a good idea to bring copies of their birth certificates—TSA agents occasionally ask. Toss in a folder or travel wallet with your credit/debit cards, a bit of cash for tolls or tips, emergency contact info, and any travel insurance paperwork. It’s not the most glamorous part of vacation prep, but being ready with the right documents can make your Orlando family vacation smooth from start to finish.

  • Photo IDs and/or passports
  • Hotel reservation confirmations
  • Park tickets or booking QR codes
  • Credit/debit cards and a little cash
  • Emergency contact list
  • Travel insurance info
  • Copies of kids’ birth certificates (especially if flying)

Bonus Tips from Disney Travel Experts:

  • Pack ponchos from home—they’re way cheaper than in the parks.
  • Bring a Sharpie and autograph book for character meet-and-greets.
  • Cooling towels or neck fans are lifesavers in the Florida heat.
  • Pack light snacks to avoid meltdowns (for both kids and adults!).
  • Use a stroller, even for kids who don’t usually use one—Disney days are long!

With the right prep, your family trip to Orlando can be as magical as the destination itself. Bookmark this post and use it as your go-to checklist for packing.

You’ll be racing through Space Mountain or building sandcastles at sunset in no time (and stress free!)
